The 2011 Independent Film Festival of Boston (IFFBoston) came to a close on Wednesday night with a sold-out screening of Rodman Flender’s CONAN O’BRIEN CAN’T STOP. Roughly 100 guest filmmakers and celebrities were in attendance at the festival including Miranda July, Kevin Clash with Elmo, Azazel Jacobs, Annie Sundberg, Garret Dillahunt, Andre Ovredal, Sebastien Pilote, Wayne Duvall, Bill Ingersoll, Mike Cahill, Jim Mickle, and numerous others. Films were shown in Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, and Somerville over a total of 8 screens.
The jury and audience award prizes have been announced and are as follows:
Narrative Feature:
Grand Jury Prize Winner: LITTLEROCK directed by Mike Ott
Special Jury Prize Winner: GREEN directed by Sophia Takal
Audience Award Winner: 13 ASSASSINS directed by Takashi Miike
Documentary Feature:
Grand Jury Prize Winner: LAST DAYS HERE directed by Don Argott & Demian Fenton
Special Jury Prize Winner: CONVENTO directed by Jarred Alterman
Audience Award Winner: RAISING RENEE directed by Steven Ascher & Jeanne Jordan
Karen Schmeer Award for Excellence in Documentary Editing: HOW TO DIE IN OREGON directed by Peter Richardson
Short Film:
Grand Jury Prize Winner: ICH BIN’S HELMUT directed by Nicolas Steiner
Special Jury Prize Winner: THE STRANGE ONES directed by Christopher Radcliff & Lauren Wolkstein
Audience Award Winner: FLYING ANNE directed by Catherine Van Campen
The Narrative Feature Jury was comprised of actor Stephen Toblowsky, Rooftop Films’ Dan Nuxoll, and filmmaker Bryan Poyser. The Documentary Feature Jury was comprised of Ashley Sabin (Invisible Girlfriend), Jason Springarn-Koff (Life 2.0), and Chico Colvard (Family Affair). The Short Film Jury was comprised of filmmaker Lena Dunham (Tiny Furniture), filmmaker Barry Jenkins (Medicine For Melancholy), and film critic Alison Willmore (IFC).
Prizes included a $60,000 Panavision camera package rental towards the filmmaker’s next film (presented to LITTLEROCK), 6 free domestic Jetblue flights anywhere that Jetblue flies in the United States (presented to both LAST DAYS HERE and GREEN), and a copy of Avid Media Composer 5 (valued at $2500) presented to HOW TO DIE IN OREGON.
